Instead, the dreamy area embraces the exclusivity and tranquility. The prime focus is admiring the romantic lakes, picturesque scenes, and wildlife. There is a small, yet idyllic beach area located in the Las Coloradas town that offers the ideal opportunity to sit back and embrace the ambiance.

The natural charms of Nichupté Lagoon

Nichupté Lagoon is made up of seven lakes. Their names are Cuenca del Norte, Cuenca del Sur, Cuenca Central, Río Inglés, Bojórquez Lagoon, Laguna Mediterránea, and Laguna de Amor (Love Lagoon). The name of the latter is due to its heart shape. All of them occupy an area of 3,000 hectare. Also they communicate with the Caribbean Sea through two canals (Nizuc and Sigfrido).

Likewise, Nichupté Lagoon serves as a natural border between the city of Cancun and the hotel area. As well as being a habitat for a great variety of animal species. Like leopard frogs, white turtles, crocodiles, blue crabs, and various types of birds. How many will you be able to spot during your visit?

Activities in Nichupté Lagoon

One of the best ways to tour Nichupté Lagoon is by speedboat. To do so, you should hire a tour that departs from the dock located on Kukulcan Boulevard in Cancun. All boats, which can hold a maximum of two, must follow the route set out by the guides.

During the activity. You’ll sail over the Nichupte Lagoon. Enter into the mangroves to contemplate the wonderful intense green landscapes. Besides you’ll snorkel in Punta Nizuc to observe the area’s underwater fauna. You’ll be provided with all the necessary equipment, and so you’ll be able to enjoy it without having to worry about a thing. Another great option to see the Nichupté Lagoon is by kayak.

Recommendations for visiting Nichupté Lagoon

It doesn’t hurt to follow a series of recommendations to make your visit to this natural paradise in Cancun a real success. Use mosquito repellent and sunscreen, follow the guide’s instructions at all times and, above all, be respectful of the environment. If you bring food or beverages, make sure you have somewhere to keep the rubbish until you can deposit it appropriately when you get to shore.

You should wear comfortable clothes, and don’t forget your bathing attire for the water activities in the lagoon. Make sure you’ve got plenty of charge on your camera or cellphone too – you’ll want to take lots of pictures!

Holbox

Isla Holbox is Paradise. You’ve never heard of it? Well, imagine a happy island with no roads, white beaches fringed by palms, flamingos, breathtaking sunsets and colorful cocktails sipped on a hammock. This is Holbox, Yucatan’s best-kept secret… that without a doubt, should be in your Yucatan road trip itinerary.

They say Isla Holbox is going to be the “next Tulum”, but I really hope they’re wrong. As much as I love the hippie-chic vibe of Tulum, what makes Holbox so special is the lack of crowds, of all-inclusive resorts, and that chill atmosphere that reminded me of beach towns in Southeast Asia such as Phi Phi Island and Koh Tao.

Part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, this place is as Caribbean as it gets in Mexico. An idyllic white sandbank in the middle of the ocean brings you right to Punta Mosquito, where if you’re lucky. You’ll be able to spot the beautiful flamingos. Don’t expect anything like the Aruba’s flamingos though – these are wild animals, and won’t let you get very close to them. Locals say you can find some all year round, but officially the Holbox flamingo season is between April and October.

Getting to the flamingos in Holbox isn’t super easy, but the walk is beautiful. Park your bike or golf cart at Las Nubes de Holbox hotel. (you can’t go any further) You get ready for a 1-hour walk. From the beach, walk towards the sandbank which is easily visible and just keep following the sandbank till you get to the tip. You will walk through water but it’s usually ankle- or knee-deep – it’s a good workout!

Just beware that the tide goes up in the early afternoon. You won’t drown if you stay longer but if you have electronics with you it might not be the smartest idea. We did indeed get stranded with the drone and had to cross a crocodile-infested lagoon… but that’s a story for another day.

Relax at the beach in Holbox

Duh! What did you come to Isla Holbox for? Wherever you are staying, you’ll have easy access to the beach (max a 5-minute walk). Any spot on Playa Holbox is pretty nice, but most of the beach is private-owned. Besides you’ll have to get a drink/food in order to use the facilities.

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, drive your bike or golf cart to Punta Cocos. Bring beers and stay for sunset, you won’t regret it!

Best places to visit in Cancun

Posted By : marth1992/ 359 0

Sometimes when we are in vacations. We don’t know what to do in this beautiful places, due to I will show you the best places to visit in Cancun and what to do on them.

Xel-Ha

Xel-Ha is a popular aquatic park in the Riviera Maya of Mexico. It features a large fresh water river, a salt water inlet (bay), and some cenotes. Aside from nature, there are plenty of cool activities and sights throughout the park. There’s snorkeling, tubing, zip lines, water slides, cliff diving, bike rides and more. Xel-Ha gives visitors the opportunity to explore the beautiful coastal waters while participating in these activities.

The River

The river at Xel-Ha runs into the main bay, also known as an inlet. From the start of the river, you can choose to tube or snorkel. This is the only place where you can grab a tube to go down the river. You can also snorkel down the river; this is one of the several places in the park where you can get your snorkel gear. Keep reading to see why I recommend tubing down the river first.

At the entrance of the river, there are secure bags where you can store your stuff. The bags are locked right there in front of you, and you’re given the key. You can take your bag at final. Besides once you’re done snorkeling or tubing. You can give them your key and they unlock the bag in front of you. It’s super safe and convenient, I left my phone and some cash in there, and I had no issues. If you don’t want to use the bags, you can always use the lockers.

Snorkeling & Tubing

You will snorkel down the river. But once you get past the mangroves, there wasn’t much to see in the river because the water was a little murky. Once you get to the inlet, that’s where you start to see lots of fish, corals, and reefs; so the inlet is the best spot for snorkeling.

Tubing is slower, but a little easier than snorkeling down the river. The current is very gentle, so you’ll probably have to use your hands to steer and paddle.

Xelha beach

Best places to visit in Cancun

Knowing all this, I recommend taking the tube down the river. Then getting your snorkel gear to go snorkeling around the inlet. That way, you get to experience both activities without having to go down the river twice.

The fresh water from the river, and salt water from the ocean meet and mix within the inlet. That, combined with the calm water creates the perfect snorkeling conditions. When snorkeling around the inlet, look for reefs or flags, because that’s where the majority of fish are.

If you can’t swim or you’re not in good physical shape, I suggest taking the tube down the river instead of snorkeling. The river is long, so swimming the entire length can get a little tiring.

Cenotes & Caves

There are several cenotes you can check out, and a rope swing to jump into the water. The cenotes are quite nice, but a little small, and you’re not allowed to swim in most of them. There’s also a cave that you can swim into, but I didn’t get a chance to check that out.

If cenotes are of particular interest to you, then you may want to check out the Xenotes tour which is run by the same company that manages Xel-Ha. The cenotes at Xel-Ha were beautiful, but a little underwhelming compared to the ones I experienced at Xenotes.

Xcaret

Xcaret means “little cove”, but this one offers you a sea of possibilities to have fun as you never imagined.

Perhaps together with Chichén Itzá and Tulum, Xcaret is one of the most visited places in the Riviera Maya. Each year it receives around one million visitors, over an extention of 80 hectares and has attractions that were carefully planned for more than 60 months. Since 1998, they have received several awards ranging from environmental education programs, prizes for working conditions, accreditations for their care of the environment, tourism excellence awards and even world records for the preservation of local species, among others.

Meet the river

Walk along at least one of its 3 underground rivers. Azul, Maya and Manatí are the names of the underground rivers that are part of the network of channels that lie under the Yucatan Peninsula and that extend for more than 650 meters, during the journey you will discover Mayan cenotes, rock formations and marine fossils.

The Aviary. This place is home to 77 species of Mexican birds, among which the red macaw stands out as a local emblem.

The living orchid museum. Here more than a hundred plants are cultivated, among which there are 89 species of orchids, many of them in danger of extinction.

The unique characteristics of this park allow for a tropical jungle environment, this facilitates the sighting of several wild animals such as: Moreletti crocodiles, bats, jaguars, white-tailed deers, pheasants, tapirs, raccoons, spider monkeys and howler monkeys among others.

Enjoy the environment

Sighting of sea creatures. The warm waters of the Caribbean are home to several species of tropical fish and other marine creatures that you can observe in:

The Coral Reef Aquarium. This place is one of a kind, thanks to the care of its hábitat, visitors can learn about the ecosystem of the underwater gardens, made possible by the permanent pumping of seawater that allows the controlled entry of plankton and sponge larvae, corals and molluscs, This venue has more than five thousand living organisms that have been colonizing this exhibit in a natural way.

Best places to visit in Cancun

Xcacel turtle camp. With a permanent program for the preservation of sea turtles, Xcaret nowadays has one of the most advanced camps in the careo f these animals, which allows the release of 300 thousand pups per year.

Manatee Lagoon. Meet Pompom and Nohoch, two manatees that inhabit the crystalline water of Xcaret lagoon, they are two marine mammals of the species Trichechus manatus that are currently in danger of extinction.

In the afternoon

Swimming at the Beaches, the Cove or in the Natural Pools. One of the great advantages of Xcaret is that it has ample spaces for swimming in which each traveler finds the adventure they want to have. The natural pools with seawater and subdued waves are the right place for families with children, seniors and people with little experience as swimmers; for young adults and people with previous experience with snorkeling, the Caleta is recommended, its depth is 1.20 meters and the waves and currents are controlled.

Best places to visit in Cancun

Visit a plaza or venue of interest. After strolling, swimming and sunbathing, your appetite will surely be wanting you to stop somewhere to eat. Some packages, like the Xcaret Plus, include a buffette meal service that you can enjoy in any of its 6 restaurants with this type of service, or if you wish, you can explore the culinary possibilities in any of its restaurants with different gastronomic specialties, cuisines, services of fast food or bars and even carts with snacks. After lunch, we recommend a walk through any of the public squares and venues such as: the Main Square, the Hacienda Henequenera Yucateca, the Museum of Popular Mexican Art, the Mayan Village, the Plaza del Vitral, the Chapel of Guadalupe, the Bell Tower, the Chapel of San Francisco de Asís and the Revolving Scenic Tower.

Historic adventure

Visit an archaeological site. Polé, today Xcaret, has more than a thousand years of history and that’s why it has archaeological ruins of the Mayan culture. The ruins are dated to the late post-classic period (1400-1517 AD), which must be covered if you want to have a complete tour.

Archeological ruins. You can choose to visit the different structures of the main square. There are four large groups. You can find buildings, temples, murals with pre-Hispanic paintings and monumental platforms.

Pre-Hispanic ball game court or Tlachco. It is a detailed replica of the Copán’s ruins in Honduras.

Holbox

If you want to meet a real paradise on earth. Then come to meet Holbox and you will relax with the beautiful landscapes and beaches. But first things first, where is Isla Holbox? The island of Holbox (pronounced like “Holbosh”) is in Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. Besides this area is a popular tourist and holiday destination thanks to the warm Caribbean Sea and beautiful beaches. Also It’s one of the best islands in Mexico and I’m hoping it manages to retain its charm as tourism to the island increases.

Isla Holbox is about 2 hours north of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, and it takes about 2.5-3 hours to get to Isla Holbox from Tulum. Since it’s an island and there are no bridges. It’s important to know you’ll also need to get a short, 20-minute ferry ride from the port town of Chiquila, Mexico. There are two Isla Holbox ferry companies that run the exact same service for the exact same price. The difference is that one Chiquila to Holbox ferry runs on the hour and the other Holbox Island ferry on the half-hour. Please don’t forget take this in count when you arrive to the port.

Just relax and do nothing

The main reason behind our Mexico trip was to have a ‘proper holiday’. Besides one where we didn’t really plan to do much and just relaxed. If you know us, you know this is pretty unlike us but we managed to do a lot of nothing on our week in Mexico. Isla Holbox is the perfect place for doing nothing. It’s not that there aren’t lots of other things to do on Isla Holbox. It’s just that the slow island pace and the beauty of the beach make you want to relax.

The best beaches in Cancun

Akumal beach

Our second stop is the picturesque beach community of Akumal, a beautiful natural reserve and one of the only spots in Cancun to swim with sea turtles. Its laidback atmosphere, natural beauty and abundant marine life provide the perfect environment for some of the best snorkeling available in the Mayan Riviera.

Akumal was founded in 1958 so it is quite a bit older than Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancun. It was actually founded by a scuba diver as a base for him and other divers. Akumal beach is a public beach so you do not have to pay an entrance fee to be on the beach. You can not buy a beach in Mexico. However the land next to the beach is available to buy and much of it has been bought by private companies, including hotels and resorts.

The best beaches in Cancun

The most common sea turtles you will find in Akumal are green sea turtles. They live in the bay while they are still juveniles. Think of Akumal as a middle school for Turtles. The bay is full of teenage turtles who live here until they become adults. At this point, they will leave the bay for the open water to find a mate.

Akumal’ is a Mayan word which translates to “place of the turtles”. This place certainly lives up to its name! Green Sea Turtles have been around for over one hundred and ten million years – since the time of the dinosaurs.

During the months of May and October, the turtles lay their eggs in the sands of Akumal Beach. Once hatched, the baby turtles dig themselves out, then hurriedly scramble down to the sea to avoid predators.

The young turtles set their internal GPS as they leave. Once matured, they return to exact same beach to lay their own eggs.

Swimming with turtles

Swimming with turtles in Cancun is an experience to help you understand the beauty of nature embodied in marine life. An activity that leaves learning to people of all ages.

Ideal to enjoy with family, friends, or that special person. The Akumal turtle tour is an excellent option to enjoy a full day of contact with nature.

Whether you join our snorkeling tour to Akumal, or do a tour with another company, there are some things you need to be aware of to minimize your environmental footprint on this site and the turtles who live there.

Rules Before Snorkeling

No human contact with the turtles – People think if they are touching the turtles it’s ok. It seems to be in our human nature to want to touch everything. Please NO TOUCHING.

No peeing in the water. Seriously. Don’t do it.

No sunscreen. Not even the reef-safe stuff. Wear a rashguard and put on your sunscreen after the tour. Even the reef-safe biodegradable sunscreen takes 1-2 weeks to dissolve. The Akumal turtles don’t want to eat your sunscreen.

The best beaches in Cancun

If you are snorkeling, stay horizontal, don’t chase the turtles or touch them, and try to not stir up the sand. The ecosystem is very fragile there and easily damaged if you aren’t careful. Pay attention, I’ve seen people accidentally kicking a turtle with their fins while adjusting their mask or other parts of their equipment. Please don’t be that person!

And lastly please remember to stay 6 ft away from the turtles.
